Who is the new Colin Town Centre for?

This new town centre development is primarily for you if you live in the Colin area, but will also be an attractive and welcoming centre for visitors to and investors in the area.

What is the Colin Town Centre (CTC) Development Plan?

This is a ‘Combined Approach’ plan for the Colin area that has been developed by the Department for Social Development (DSD) in consultation with the community of Colin.  The Colin Town Centre (CTC) development plan is to provide much needed facilities and services, and an improved aesthetic in the heart of Colin. The new provision will include health, education, leisure, retail, a public square, parkland with play area and improved transport connectivity; attracting much needed investment and providing a better place to live, work, play and study.

An Integrated Consultancy Team (ICT) have prepared a masterplan to gain outline planning permission for the CTC site with RIBA Stage 2 planning application to be submitted for the Integrated Neighbourhood Centre (INC – a multi-purpose community space).

Who’s involved?

You… if you live in the Colin area, through consultation the community have shaped the revised ‘Combined Approach Masterplan’, to a plan led by education. You have the opportunity to continue to shape the new Colin Town Centre (CTC) development. Your ideas and opinions will help inform the CTC project team that will develop a town centre fit to serve the needs of community, and to create a welcoming place for visitors to the area.

The Department for Social Development (DSD) is leading the Colin Town Centre Masterplan project, in partnership with Colin Neighbourhood Partnership (CNP) and with the support of Strategic Investment Board (SIB) as a delivery partner.

The complex nature of this large infrastructure project will require support from across central and local Government involving a number of Departments, including, Department of Education (DE) Department of  Culture Arts and Leisure (DCAL), Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS), Department of Regional Development (DRD) and Department of the Environment (DOE), and the Belfast City Council (BCC). It will also require support from Statutory Agencies as well as attracting investment from the private sector. Work is ongoing to engage these stakeholders in the combined approach plan.

How can I get involved?

Visit the new Colin Community HUB located at Laurelglen Parade, it will be a central point of contact for you to find out more about the CTC project and a place to give your opinions and ideas about the development. There will also be opportunity to sign up for events and activities.

Colin Neighbourhood Partnership is delighted to be working again with Partisan Productions to create a unique and beautiful community theatre event – The Colin Nativity. This production will see a contemporary take on the traditional nativity play. Involving local people working alongside professional actors, singers and musicians, this joyful production offers the hope that, even when times are at their hardest, there is no need to accept despair and that the power to transform this life and this world is born in the heart as it was born in the corner of a stable. Taking place from 7.30pm on Monday 21st December, The Colin Nativity will be staged in and around the Dairy Farm Shopping Centre and the Colin Community Hub on the Stewartstown Road. We would very much like local people to get involved with the production, please contact John Paul Russell at Colin Neighbourhood Partnership on 028 9062 3813 or email johnpaul@newcolin.com for information.
